ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï Argyll celebrates Higher Education Student of the Year 2026
ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï Argyll is delighted to announce Fiona McCusker as the 2026 Higher Education Student of the Year.
Fiona, who lives and studies on Islay, has completed her qualification in Social Services (Children and Young People) and was nominated by her assessor, Shannon Gabor, for her exceptional commitment to learning and the remarkable impact she has on the children and families she supports.
Fiona works with a wide variety of children with complex needs and has spent a significant amount of time learning about the challenges they face. Throughout her studies, she has built a deep and wide‑ranging understanding of additional support needs. Much of this learning has been self‑directed, demonstrating her commitment to lifelong learning and her determination to provide the highest standard of care.
In class, Fiona is known for creating a positive, uplifting environment, supporting her peers and contributing to a strong sense of community. Her passion for championing the rights of children is rooted in her own family experience of ASN, and she is committed to promoting independence from an early age.
Her assessor, Shannon Gabor, praised her extraordinary dedication, saying:
“Fiona’s work seems like more of a calling than a career given her dedication. She honours two roles within her school and will work later into the night to ensure she is well prepared for her transition from one to the other.”
Fiona’s compassion, professionalism, and nurturing approach have earned her the trust of children, families, and colleagues alike.
ÍøÆØ³Ô¹Ï Argyll is proud to recognise Fiona’s achievements and celebrate the positive impact she continues to make within her community.
